KAPIT: Police disrupted a Chinese New Year (CNY) cockfighting ring set up at an open field at Rh Nyawai, Jalan Bena here and arrested eight men.
Kapit acting OCPD ASP Anthony Apui said the raid codenamed ‘Op Limau’ was carried out following a public tip-off around 3.30pm.
“As soon as the police arrived at the scene, a group of individuals ran off into the jungle.
“However, their freedom was short-lived as the police went after them and arrest eight of them.”
Also seized during the raid were several roosters and gambling paraphernalia at the scene.
“The suspects aged 35 and 67 are being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 and punishable under Section 5(3) of the same Act, which carries a three-month jail term and a RM5,000 fine, upon conviction.”
