Police inspects a ‘holo’ table used by the gamblers.

BAU: Eight men engrossed in a game of ‘holo’ (dice-based gambling game) were nabbed at a house in Kampung Pisa Krokong, near here on Wednesday night .

District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the gamblers, aged between 42 and 62, were arrested during Ops Limau by personnel from Bau Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at around 11.45pm.

“Police inspection found that a group of men were gathering at a table in the back of the house on suspicion of playing ‘holo’.

“When they became aware of the police’s presence, all of them fled and hid inside the house,” he said today (Feb 18).

He explained that the police then entered the house and arrested the eight men involved and seized the gambling items.

Police also confiscated a unit of silver aluminum cup, three dice and a piece of cloth with pictures of chicken, crab, tiger, vase, shrimp and fish, eight plastic chairs, a table and cash.

All the suspects will be investigated under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or a maximum six months jail sentence upon conviction.
