KUCHING: Sarawak today recorded eight new positive Covid-19 cases, bringing the tally of cases in the state to 1,019.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said seven cases were reported in Kuching, and one in Lawas.

The seven cases in Kuching tested positive after close contacts with other positive cases.

“Case 1,012 is a husband who has come into contact with Case 1,010.

“Case 1,013 is a father and has close contact with Case 916. This case is a new case who has contact with a positive case in the Greenhill Cluster.

“Meanwhile, Cases 1,014, 1,015 and 1,016 involve a wife and children and they have close contact with Case 986.

“Lastly, Cases 1,017 and 1,018 involved a wife and a child, who have close contact with Case 899. Both cases are new cases having contact with a positive case in the Wisma Saberkas Cluster,” he said at the daily Covid-19 update press conference today.

All cases in Kuching have been admitted to the isolation ward in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment. Active contact tracing is in full swing.

Uggah added one new positive case reported in Lawas involved a local man who returned from Sabah on Nov 7.

Case 1,019 has been in Sabah since early June for working purposes as a salesman in a clothing store in Kota Kinabalu.

The case returned to Sarawak via the Merapok Immigration and Customs Quarantine Complex (ICQS) and immediately admitted to the quarantine centre upon arrival in Lawas for the mandatory 14-day quarantine.

“This case, who did not show any signs and symptoms, was referred to and admitted to the Miri Hospital isolation ward for further treatment,” said Uggah, adding that further investigations and contact tracing were underway.

SDMC added  22 cases had recovered and had been discharged, 16 cases from SGH and six from Miri Hospital — bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases thus far to 882 or 86.56 percent.

As of today, there were 118 individuals receiving treatment at hospital isolation wards in the state — 102 in SGH and 16 in Miri Hospital.

“Thirteen persons under investigation (PUI) cases have been reported while three are awaiting laboratory results.

“There are no cases receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). The death toll in the state remains at 19 or 1.86 percent,” the committee said.
