Eight new clusters announced

KUCHING: The State Health Department has declared the emergence of eight new Covid-19 clusters yesterday (August 27).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said six of the clusters are community clusters while the other two are workplace clusters.

The Jero Gelasah Cluster in Subis District is a community cluster involving a longhouse placed under the enhanced movement control order (Emco) in Subis District.

Of the 72 people who were screened, 15 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, and 57 are still waiting for results. The cluster recorded 12 new cases yesterday.

On the Estate 0004 Kuala Baram Cluster, the committee said the workplace cluster was detected in an oil palm plantation placed under the Emco in Miri District.

Of the 178 people who were screened, 31 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, one tested negative and 146 are still waiting for results. The cluster reported 31 new cases yesterday.

The Nanga Bengap Cluster is a community cluster involving a longhouse in Lubok Antu District.

Of the 186 people who were screened, 42 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, 142 tested negative and two are still waiting for results. The cluster recorded 31 new cases yesterday.

On the Mundai Cluster, the committee said the community cluster was detected involving the residents of Kampung Mundai, which is located in the sub-district of Siburan.

Of the 133 people who were screened, 66 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 and 67 tested negative. The cluster reported two new cases yesterday.

The Mapu Cluster is a community cluster involving the residents of several villages, namely Kampung Mapu Kijabu, Kampung Mapu Tantu, Kampung Sadong and Kampung Mapu Tragu in Tebedu District.

Of the 65 people who were screened, 43 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, 11 tested negative and 11 are still waiting for results. The cluster recorded two new cases yesterday.

On the KM 20 Jalan Betong Cluster, the committee said that the workplace cluster was detected involving staff quarters of a construction company located at KM 20 Jalan Betong in Betong District.

Of the 55 people who were screened, 23 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, five tested negative, and 27 are still waiting for results. The cluster reported 12 new cases yesterday.

Duras Cluster is a community cluster detected involving the residents of Kampung Duras, which is located in the sub-district of Siburan.

Of the 82 people who were screened, 60 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19 and 22 tested negative. The cluster recorded four new cases yesterday.

On the Nanga Dap Cluster, the committee said that the community cluster was detected involving a longhouse in Kanowit District.

Of the 65 people who were screened, 29 including the index case tested positive for Covid-19, and 36 tested negative. The cluster reported 22 new cases yesterday.

All positive cases are receiving treatment at hospitals and Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRCs) in their respective districts.

On a lighter note, SDMC also reported the end of a cluster namely the Sungai Sebatu Cluster in Meradong District after no new cases were recorded involving this cluster in the last 28 days.

Presently, there are 126 active clusters in the state, with 25 clusters recording 269 new additional cases.
