Eight teams to vie for Francis Harden Trophy

KUCHING: Eight teams will took part in the Sri Aman League Football Tournament-LSC 2017 for Datuk Francis Harden Trophy from July 29 until August 27.

The tournament that will be played at Padang KSU Lama, Simanggang will see Projek 16 Sri Aman, Paramatta, Pemuda PRS, Seberkas DUN Lingga, GMA FC (PSKPP), SUPP Simanggang FC, Engkelili &Lubok Englant and Bumi Bakong FC taking part.

In conjunction to the tournament,a handing over sponsorship to Sri Aman Football Association (Sri Aman FA) from Lea Sports Centre (LSC) ceremony was held and received by Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis at his office in Baitulmakmur building, here, on Wednesday.

Harden, who is also Sri Aman FA president, said the tournament is a very important competition in Sri Aman as it aims to select the best players to represent Sri Aman for the Sarawak Cup tournament in Mukah in October this year.

“Today, we are very thankful to receive sponsorships in terms of trophy, medals and also gift vouchers from LSC as well as jersey sets totalling RM15,000,” he said.

“I will be at the kickoff for the launching of tournament on July 30 at 4pm.

“In the previous year, we managed to find good players and we hoped this year will also produce good players from the tournament” he said.

Harden said there will be another two series of tournaments, the Under 19 and Youth Open tournaments in November and a futsal tournament to be held this year.

Meanwhile, Lea Sports Centre Sdn Bhd managing director, Raymond Sim Hee Pang said LSC works with Adidas is sponsoring the Adidas balls as the official balls for the tournament.

“There will be also special trophies prepared for the best scorer, best player and fair play awards,” he said, adding that sports activities such as football promotes unity as the multiracial participants make it unique in Sarawak.
