SIBU: An elderly motorcyclist died while another sustained severe injuries in an accident at Jalan Sibu-Tanjung Manis yesterday.
Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the accident occurred around 4pm and involved two motorcycles riding towards Sungai Bidut.
Investigations revealed that the accident happened at Jalan Berjaya junction when a motorcyclist hit another biker from behind.
It is believed that the victim (Wong Tok Woo, 82) was turning into Berjaya junction when the collision happened.
“Both motorcyclists sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Sibu Hospital,” he said.
Alexson said Wong succumbed to his injuries while being treated whereas the other biker was admitted into the intensive care unit (ICU).
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
