Elderly motorcyclist succumbs to injuries suffered in road crash

SIBU: An elderly man who was involved in a road accident last Friday has succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment the following day (Apr 3).

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the accident involving two motorcycles, happened at Jalan Teku around 2pm when both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions.

“Investigations found that one of the motorcycles ridden by two teenagers heading to Teku market went out of control and entered the opposite lane before colliding with the victim, who was travelling alone.

“As a result of the collision, both riders (including the victim) sustained severe injuries and were taken to Sibu Hospital for treatment.

“However, the victim identified as Ling Yong Kin, 82, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment in Sibu Hospital around 1.35pm on Saturday,” he said.

The teenage rider, 19, is still receiving treatment for his fractured femur while his pillion, 16, did not sustain any injuries.

Alexson said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
