Elderly motorist perishes in fiery death

Firefighters douse the fire which engulf the vehicle after it crashed.

MIRI: An elderly man was burnt to death after a car he was driving skidded and crashed into a tree near Miri Public Park along Jalan Miri-Bintulu on Wednesday night (Sept 1).

Following the crash, the car then burst into flames, killing 61-year-old Tan Kaw Tee on the spot.

State Fire and Rescue Department operation centre said nine rescuers from the Miri Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the location after receiving a distress call at about 10.50pm.

The body of the victim was extricated from the wreckage after firefighters had doused the fire.

The victim’s body was then handed over to the police for further action.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
