KUCHING: A sexagenarian sustained burns after a double-storey house along Jalan Penrissen, Mile 4 1/2, here caught fire last night (May 14).
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the 60-year-old was promptly rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for immediate treatment.
The victim suffered burns on the soles of his feet while escaping the fire.
The fiery incident happened around 9.40 pm and firemen from the Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya stations were despatched to the scene.
On arrival, they confirmed that a fire had occurred in a bedroom on the second floor.
The team swiftly sprang into action and managed to bring the flames under control around 10 pm.
Ventilation works were also carried out due to the thick smoke that had accumulated in the room.
The actual cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
