Elderly woman dies in crash

MUKAH:  A 60-year-old woman was killed when a motorcycle on which she was riding pillion with her husband went out of control and crashed after the bike ran over a rope lying across the road at Jalan Kampung Sungai Alo here last Thursday.

The victim, a housewife, was identified as Habibah Jaraee, from Kampung Sungai Alo.

Mukah district police chief, DSP Jimmy Panyau said in the 3pm incident, the victim and her husband, who is a fisherman, also from Kampung Sungai Alo, were on their way home.

He said their motorcycle ran over a rope used to tie a cow lying across the road, causing the vehicle to go out of control.

“As a result, both fell on the road, and the husband was injured on the forehead,” he said in a statement via WhatsApp on Friday (Feb 5).

Both of them were sent to the hospital by a member of the public.

However, the woman passed away at home at 8.21pm after being allowed to return home by a medical officer, as the victim reportedly had no chance of survival.

She succumbed to severe traumatic brain injury, as confirmed by the medical officer.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of Road Transport Act 1987.
