Elderly woman dies in Mukah house fire

The fire at its peak in Kampung Tutus Ulu, Jalan Balingian-Mukah.

MUKAH: The charred remains of an octogenarian were found in a razed house in Kampung Tutus Ulu this morning (June 6).

Firemen from the Mukah station found the body belonging to an 80-year-old woman under the rubble.

It is believed that the victim was not able to make out of the burning house in time.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said her body has been handed over to the police to be transported to the hospital.

In the 12.05 am incident, five other residents, including a woman, managed to escape to safety.

No injuries were reported among them, who are now homeless after the midnight blaze.

There was not much the firefighters could do except to control and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses.

The firemen completed their operations at 1.55 am.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
