BAU: An elderly woman died on the spot in a collision between a lorry and a car along Jalan Lundu-Bau early this morning.
The accident happened around 12.30 am when the car apparently rear-ended the lorry.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department said the victim, identified as 64-year-old Saptuyah Sulong, was a front seat passenger.
Firemen from Bau station who were deployed to the scene found the victim trapped in her seat and extrication works were carried out using special equipment.
However, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and her body was taken to Bau Hospital for a post-mortem.
The driver of the car, who was rescued by passers-by, was sent to Bau Hospital to be treated for head injuries.
Meanwhile, the lorry driver escaped unhurt.
