KUCHING: A dialogue was held at Marudi Civic Centre on Monday (July 20) to address the issues of electricity and water interruptions in the district of late.
Community leaders, non-governmental organisations, Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) attended.
“The reason for the dialogue is to provide explanation on the water and electricity supply interruptions in Marudi as well as in Beluru,” said Assistant Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.
“Besides that, it is for the agencies to find a solution to resolve the issues and for the participants to be able to ask the agencies directly about their problems,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday (July 20).
The Marudi assemblyman said on the electricity supply interruption recently, SEB informed him that it was due to an electric pole in the forest being struck by lightning.
“Other than that, SEB said that it was currently performing upgrading work on its Marudi and Bunut substation to improve the stability of power supply in the area.
“SEB is also working to provide a genset for Marudi, especially for hospital use in the event of electricity supply interruption,” he said.
On the water supply interruption, Penguang said the problem stemmed from work to upgrade the water supply infrastructure in Marudi, adding that the situation would be improved once the work is completed.
“It is crucial that all complaints are lodged to the right channel so that the issues can be addressed and not being used as a political ploy by some parties,” Penguang said.
Also present during the dialogue were Alexander Asing, a political secretary to the Chief Minister, and Marudi District Officer Mackos Sibong.
