SIBU: Junior Chamber International (JCI) Mandarin Sibu’s 21st installation ceremony of its board of directors was held at Kingwood Hotel here, yesterday.

Second Minister of Finance, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh who was invited as the guest of honour for the event was represented by Dudong Assemblyman, Datuk Tiong Thai King, who is also chairman of Sibu Municipal Council.

Tiong who represented Wong, witnessed the JCI Mandarin Sibu’s 21st installation ceremony of its board of directors.

This year Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCIM) will be focusing on members’ development, sustainable projects, PR (Public Relations) and Branding.
JCIM national president, Nurul Huda Afandi said this year, its theme is ‘CCTV’ which denotes courage; collaborate; teamwork; value whereby its spirit will be instilled among the members.

“We have launched the JCIM passport to encourage members to be active in JCI, and have completed the 2017 leadership summit for the local board of directors.
“We will be rolling out many new training courses and programmes to develop our members and attract new members,” Nurul said in her speech at the JCI Mandarin Sibu’s 21st installation ceremony of its board of directors and awards banquet at a Kingwood Hotel here, yesterday.

Nurul text of speech was read by JCIM’s executive vice-president, JCI Senator Samantha Yong Yin Sia.

At the ceremony Eliah Lau Kiing Wang was installed as the new president of JCI Mandarin for the year 2017-2018 to succeed the outgoing president, Kan Wen Chess.

On sustainable projects, Nurul said JCIM encouraged all wings to conduct sustainable projects in collaboration with all sectors of society to create an impact in the local community.

She said JCIM’s sustainable development award would be open for nomination soon for companies and organisations that conduct sustainable projects which advance the global goals.

For the PR and branding, she pointed out that their goal was to position JCIM on “top of mind” among all youth development organisations.

“We are in the progress of enhancing our online presence through the updated JCIM website, launching JCIM.tv and having regular updates on JCIM FB page.

“We have also conducted visits to media houses and will soon be arranging interviews in the media as we continue to reach out to more youths in the country.

“In addition, we have built partnership for collaboration with various sectors of society such as Biro Tatanegara and Economic Planning Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department; Malaysia Institute of Corporate Governance and Kiwanis International.

Nurul added that this year would be an extraordinary year for JCIM with its strong and capable national board of directors and appointees, and passionate members in the country to synergise and bring JCIM to greater heights.
