Embankment built in Simunjan village to prevent floods

Date:

KUCHING: A bund had been built at Kampung Selangking, Simunjan to prevent floodwaters from affecting crops.

Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the project was handed over to the villagers on Thursday (Sept 23).

“This project will benefit residents of the village, especially during the monsoon season, as it can prevent water from entering the area where crops are planted,” she said in a Facebook post on Friday (Sept 24).

Nancy said the project was developed using allocations given by the Sarawak government.

“It was implemented under the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency costing RM100,000.”

On Thursday, Nancy, who is federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, was represented by her service centre staff at the handover of the project together with representatives from the Irrigation and Drainage Department.

She was unable to attend the programme as she is currently attending Parliament, which is in session.
