KUCHING: The decision to implement the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Kampung Baru, Samarahan was to avoid further spread of Covid-19 in the locality.
Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang said the area, which is the fifth to be placed under EMCO in the Samarahan district, was found to have sporadic Covid-19 infections.
She said this followed the EMCO at Kampung Tambirat at in Asajaya which was announced a day earlier.
“This is the fifth and sixth EMCO implemented after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration for this year.
“I think its implementation is very important when looking at the situation and trend of daily reports of Covid-19 outbreaks in both places, which is in a worrying situation at the moment,” she said on Friday.
Rubiah said for the EMCO at Kampung Baru, it will involve three localities namely Kampung Baru Hulu, Kampung Baru Hilir and Kampung Baru Tengah with more than 4,000 residents.
“I hope the people in the area would accept this decision with an open heart and that the situation will subside so that we can live our daily lives as usual,” she said.
Currently, for Kampung Baru, active case detection (ACD) efforts are underway on residents in the three localities.
In total, the implementation of EMCO in the two areas — Kampung Baru and Kampung Tambirat — will involve more than 7,000 residents from 1,700 families.
Rubiah said this requires high commitment, especially from community leaders and also frontline officers such as Police, Health Ministry and other agencies involved.
