SELANGAU: The Emergency Ordinance was implemented to safeguard the harmony and peace of the people during the Covid-19 pandemic, said Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

The Deputy Health Minister pointed out that the government was caring towards and aware of the people’s troubles in this pandemic.

He said this during a ‘Program Malaysia Prihatin’ at Selangau multipurpose hall on Thursday (Mar 25).

“The Emergency Ordinance should not be wrongly assumed as the government’s weapon to retain power because it is actually to safeguard the harmony and peace during this Covid-19 crisis.

“The real purpose of the declaration of emergency is to enable the government to address the problems of Covid-19 and for the wellbeing of Malaysians.

“The government is very concerned about the issues of the people during this difficult time. This is why a variety of assistance and subsidies have been given to the people,” he stressed.

He advised the people to follow the new norms and adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in order to prevent new Covid-19 waves in the country.

He called on the rural community to register for the immunisation programme through the MySejahtera application and not to be afraid of the vaccine as it is safe as well as can protect everyone from getting infected.

Among the activities during the programme were exhibitions, mini quizzes and distribution of materials by Sibu district Information Department as well as Covid-19 vaccination programme by Sibu division health department.

After the programme, Aaron visited the site for Selangau Health Clinic and was briefed by Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira on the facility as well as other health clinics at Selangau parliamentary constituency.
