SIBU: A Community emergency response team (CERT) programme for Sibu district has been set up.
Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting launched the programme at a ceremony held at the Civic Centre here.
According to Ting, the programme aimed at training village leaders to set up a team for emergency response to all forms of mishaps.
“I urge all participants to form their own team, and then ask for necessary basic emergency equipment for their kampung.
“JKM (Social Welfare Department) is working to prevent disasters in rural areas and through this programme, the villagers’ awareness and readiness will improve,” he said.
