KOTA SAMARAHAN: Sarawak’s emphasis on the development of Chinese education has received praise from China.
Chinese consul-general in Kuching, Cheng Guangzhong said he was impressed by the development of education in the state.
“I have been in Sarawak for nearly three years and I am deeply impressed by the development of education in Sarawak. In particular, the state government attaches great importance to the development of Chinese education,” he said at the Innostre Special Edition 2020: The 1st Global Summit on Viral-Immunology and Antiviral Therapy of Covid-19 conference at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Kota Samarahan today.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was present to officiate at the one-day event.
Cheng said Malaysia is a good neighbour, partner and friend of China and that the cooperation between China and Sarawak had achieved fruitful results in many fields.
“Although the Covid-19 has hindered people-to-people exchanges between countries, it has not limited the friendship between the people of China and Sarawak.
“I hope that this conference will make useful explorations to promote educational exchanges between China and Asean countries and enhance friendship between our people.
“The consul-general in Kuching will continue to play its role as a bridge and provide services and convenience for Sarawak friends to deepen cooperation with China in various fields,” he said.
Cheng said Malaysia is an important member of Asean and that China-Malaysia relations enjoyed a solid foundation and broad prospects.
“Education cooperation is an effective carrier to further deepen the relationship between China and Asean, which can help both sides to increase trust and resolve doubts, communicate policies, reserve talents and stimulate the economy,” he said.
