DALAT: The Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication and the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) are improving the infrastructure and water supply system in Mukah Division with the implementation of various high, short and medium impact projects.

The projects include the Tegup Booster Pump Station construction here which has now been completed and currently awaiting the testing and commissioning process before it can be fully operational by this year’s Hari Raya.

According to the Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah who is also Dalat assemblywoman, it will benefit a total of 2,659 residents in the Kekan and Medong areas with better and continuous water supply with no more low water pressure problems.

“About 98.42 per cent of the work has been completed and the project involving RM6.8 million will be fully completed in mid-April.

“That is why to overcome low water pressure, a high-level water tank is built in this area so that enough water can be pumped from the Dalat water tank before it enters the underground tank that has been completed.

“So when it is filled, water will be pumped upwards, and from this Tegup high-level water tank, water will be channelled to Medong and Kekan,” she said to reporters after visiting the Tegup Booster Pump Station on Tuesday.

She added that the booster pump station is fully equipped with a 24-hour electricity supply to ensure that the supply is pumped continuously, with a generator system provided in the event of a power outage.

Meanwhile, Fatimah also said she expects the demand for water consumption in Medong and Kekan to increase on Hari Raya this year because many who work in the city will return to their hometowns.

“We hope the contractor can complete the remaining work so that the testing and commissioning work can be carried out this month,” she said.
