KUCHING: Local tourism players are encouraged to engage with the Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation (JSBC) and try to tap on collaborative efforts in promoting the state’s tourism products to China.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated, “If China’s third biggest television network is able to see the good potential of the state, it is now up to us to grab this
(opportunity).”

He said this in response to the JSBC deputy director for International Department and International Channel Li Hanchun’s statement on Wednesday, who welcomes the tourism players from Sarawak for collaborative efforts particularly in promoting the state’s tourism products to JSBC’s audience through its various media platforms.

Li stated that Sarawak has great tourism potential which he sees can be further promoted to audience in China through its travel channel.

He sang praises to Kuching and expressed his idea on how JSBC can include Kuching or other attractions in Sarawak in one of the segments in its television programme.

He also stated that JSBC has an international department which through this, both JSBC and tourism players in Sarawak can work on what content to focus on.

In response to this, Abdul Karim noted that JSBC was one of the attendees during the Asian TV Awards (ATA) and had also interviewed the minister at the event.

“I believed they must have been quite fascinated with what they can see in Sarawak. They can see the potential,” he said.

Abdul Karim who is also the Youth and Sports Minister added that the state government is working hard in building up ties with China, such as establishing direct flights to China soon.

Apart from China, the state is also collaborating with other countries such as Brunei Darussalam through Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA) which will be having flight connectivity from Bandar Seri Begawan to Sibu and Bintulu.
