KUCHING: Bintulu International Container Terminal (BICT) along with SITC Container Lines (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd (SITC) celebrated the maiden voyage of China-Malaysia-Vietnam (CMV) Service today following the berthing of MV Bahamian Express at BICT.

The said berth signified the launch of SITC’s latest service route, known as CMV Service, to further enhance connectivity between Bintulu and other major ports within the Intra Asia Trade Route.

SITC Container Lines made its inaugural call to Malaysia, at BICT, Bintulu Port back in September 2014 and they have been growing and expanding their service routes to cater for the supply and demand chain in the region, said Bintulu Ports Sdn Bhd (BPSB) in a media statement.

Present was the Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad group chief executive officer Datuk Mohammad Medan Abdullah; chief operating officer Yusof Ibrahim; and group corporate planning and development general manager Eizam Ismail to congratulate SITC Container Lines (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd’s general manager Marco Xu on the maiden voyage call for CMV Service at BICT.

This CMV Service offers a direct and fast service connecting Bintulu with Ho Chi Minh, Qui Nhon, Shanghai, Ningbo, Dalian, Xingang and Qingdao and covers main ports in Borneo region, including Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Sandakan, Tawau,Lahad Datu and Labuan via transhipment in BICT.

This will benefit local manufacturers in Sarawak and Sabah, especially Samalaju Industrial Park’s investors within Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) in terms of reduced transit time as well as cost effective logistics arrangement.

Ultimately, the new shipping service will enhance Sarawak’s and the nation’s port competitiveness within the industry.
