KUCHING: Egg, chicken and meat supplies will be sufficient throughout the month of Ramadan, said the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Dato Alexander Nanta Linggi.

“We at KPDNHEP  are quite relieved to be assured by the suppliers that the supply will be sufficient throughout Sarawak,” he said during a press conference after a walk-about at CCK Local Supermarket on Sunday (April 3).

He noted that with the opening of the borders, there will be an increase in economic activities due to visitors from neighbouring countries.

“The economy will be more vibrant because when the borders are open and restrictions are relaxed, the demand will increase, especially food and essential items,” he said.

He also appealed to traders to not make unreasonable profits, such as by raising the price of goods because that is considered an offence.

“With the announcement made that the minimum wage will be implemented this coming May 1, some traders might have thought of raising the price of goods to make a profit but we have warned them in advance not to do so.”

He also reminded consumers to be smart and only buy what is needed at affordable prices.

“I encourage consumers to use the Price Catcher application which helps consumers make better choices and comparisons before buying goods,” he added.
