JULAU: The Agriculture Department will conduct 10 outreach programmes (AgriCop) in Meluan constituency this year.

Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin said, AgriCop aims to further strengthen the relationship and cooperation between the department and the farming community in rural and interior areas.

“Today is the first AgriCop programme to be held here. After this, nine more series of AgriCop programmes will be held in the Meluan area.

“I am very committed to ensure that the rural farmers are assisted by bringing them closer to the Agriculture Department so that they will be able to learn and adopt modern farm techniques in order to increase their income,” he said when officiating at the Melaun constituency AgriCop at Rumah Mut Ninting in Nanga Maong, Mujok on Friday.

Rolland said the programme also provided direct exposure on the latest agricultural technology through lectures, exhibitions and also models and demonstrations.

“At the same time, it increases the knowledge, awareness and skills of various target groups in the agricultural industry sector to increase the production of quality products as well as income of farmers,” he said.

The two-day programme was attended by 36 participants from 12 longhouses in the Sungai Mujok area.

Participants were given talks on pepper planting, disease control and pests, paddy cultivation, Musang King durian cultivation and breeding technology.

At the event, Rolland presented RM2,000 in minor rural project (MRP) grant to Rumah Mut Women Bureau, RM5,000 to Nanga Maong Health Clinic Club and RM10,000 to SK Nanga Maong Parent and Teacher Association (PIBG).
