KUCHING: The 12 initiatives planned by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to chart Sarawak’s way forward are unique development strategies to drive Sarawak forward to realise its Vision 2030 of becoming a developed state with a high-income economy post Covid-19.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief Datuk Seri Doris Brodie said the 12 initiatives would ensure a strong foundation for Sarawak’s economy and growth.

“In my view, when the Covid-19 pandemic challenges have been overcome, we need to leapfrog and move on the double in order to be on track to achieve Vision 2030,” she told New Sarawak Tribune on Sunday (Nov 15).

She said this in response to Abang Johari’s winding-up speech during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session on Friday (Nov 13).

The 12 initiatives are Digital Transformation, Innovation, Education and Human Capital, Agriculture, Services Sector, Infrastructure and Utilities, Transportation, Renewable Energy, Tourism, Forestry, Manufacturing and Entrepreneur Development and Mining.

Doris added that Abang Johari also mentioned that the state budget was designed to create an investment environment and ecosystem for the private sector to invest and was crafted to suit a new economic development model.

“Indeed, it is crucial for Sarawak to re-invent its thinking to suit a new economic development model in order to achieve its aspiration to be a developed state with a high-income economy in ten years’ time,” she pointed out.

Doris said the 2021 State Budget with the theme ‘Reinvigorating the Economy towards a Resilient, Caring and Inclusive Society’ totalling to RM9.8 billion was aptly designed to allow the economy to grow.

“At the same time, it allows us to build a resilient society, strengthen social inclusivity and enhance environmental sustainability,” she added.
