MIRI: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the Sarawak government’s priorities were to provide and upgrade sporting facilities to ensure that the state continued to have top-class sport programmes.

Met at the Miri Go-Kart Club’d gathering at Miri Go-Kart Track in Permyjaya on Sunday (Aug 30), the minister said sporting events not only helped to showcase athletes but also promoted youth engagement and physical activities.

Sports, he added, also helped people to keep fit and be healthy.

“We have received numerous requests from other districts in the state to upgrade their sporting facilities to be upgraded.

“We will consider their requests in stages,” he said.

The Miri Go-track, built 16 years ago, is 1.3km long and 10 metres wide.

It is currently the longest go kart race track and the one and only built to the international track standards for go-karting.
