SELANGAU: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun launched Selangau Festival 2017 here on Friday night. The festival will end today.

Speaking at the event, Entulu said the festival could promote Selangau Town as an attractive destination in the future.

He suggested new events be incorporated to make the festival more nteresting.

“One of the ways is by introducing the martial “kuntaw” event, Iban traditional entertainment (beramban) and “mengap” or “nimang” and so forth.”

Entulu, who is also Member of Parliament for Selangau, commended the organising committee for organising the festival successfully.

In his welcoming speech, organising chairman, Councillor Ho Kok Munting said two new events were introduced this year, namely, kayaking and remote control speed boat racing.

He said the festival would feature various activities including
health screening, an exhibition by government agencies, a “bertaboh” contest, street soccer, a blowpipe competition, a dart throwing competition, a tug of war and so forth.

“There will also be a rafting competition, entertainment and so forth,” he said.

Selangau District Officer Inting Nyami, Political Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Department, Adriana Chumang Nyambung, Penghulu Thomas Jawa and other were among those present.
