KUCHING: The Department of Statistics Malaysia’s (DOSM) upcoming Population and Housing Census 2020 (Census 2020) will require 8,024 enumerators and 1,229 supervisors in total throughout Sarawak.

DOSM Sarawak deputy director Dayang Rozana Abang Hassan encouraged interested individuals to apply for these roles which would be effective during the census period, with enumerators on duty for about three weeks and supervisors for a longer period.

“Enumerators will be paid RM54 per day and this position will have a minimum SPM requirement,” she said during a press conference following a courtesy call by DOSM representatives to Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah at Baitul Makmur Building, Petra Jaya here yesterday.

“Meanwhile, supervisors will be paid RM72 per day and they will require an STPM or diploma level,” she added.

Those interested are encouraged to follow DOSM on Facebook for further updates on the programme and also ‘@MyCensus2020’ on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Locals would be preferred to conduct these duties in their respective districts or areas as they would be more familiar.

Fatimah said that training would be provided for those who were successful in their interviews for the roles.

“Those living in the cities may be wary of whether these individuals are legitimate or not. To be sure that they are the authorised enumerators, please request to see their nametag and letter of authorisation,” she advised.

Dayang added that they could also contact the DOSM Sarawak office to ensure that the enumerators were legitimate.

Census 2020 will cover 40 administrative districts.

Also present were DOSM population statistics and demographics division assistant director Zainal Abidin Abd Mutalib, DOSM Sarawak assistant director Siti Erfina Kadri, and Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMNS) representatives.
