Equal devt promise for S’wak

SIBU: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) government wants Sarawak to be developed on par with those taking place in the Peninsula.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the federal government wanted to be together with the state government under GPS in developing the state which was still lagging behind in basic infrastructure especially in the rural area.

According to Wan Azizah, who is also Minister of Women,  Family and Community Development, she  wanted to see Sarawak developed on par with the Peninsula.
“We in the new government (PH government) want development in the state to be carried out together, irrespective of which party we belong to,” she said.

She said the PH government wanted to fulfil its promise of developing the state since taking over Putrajaya following last May 9 general elections.

“And we want to change things for the betterment of the country,” she added.
Thus, she said Sarawak is a big country which is a big state which is rich in natural resources that could be harnessed to build up its potentials for the betterment of its people.

“Sarawak is a big country, a big state rich in natural resources and hard working people that can help enhance the state to its best possible position. And we need to build infrastructures, roads, and providing basic amenities like supplies of electricity and treated water,” she said, adding that it was  the government’s responsibility  to provide the necessary infrastructures and basic amenities including roads, clean water and electricity.

She said this at the dinner with the rakyat held at one of the leading hotels in Sibu on Tuesday night.
Earlier,  Wan Azzizah visited a longhouse and attended a briefing on the development of pepper crop in Julau, in Sarikei Division. Her visit to Julau was her first visit to the state after the last general election which provided her with a better insights on the development of the state.

On the party election, she wanted those winning their respecive posts not to forget those who had been struggling with the party since its formation.

She said the services and sacrifices of those who had been struggling with the party until this level should be appreciated.

“Who would have thought PKR would be at this level. Those winning their respecive posts are reminded not to abuse the posts given.  And do not waste the trust and support given by our members,” she said.
Sarawak is the last leg of the party election which will take place this Saturday.

Also present were Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department FuziahSalleh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Julau Larry Sng, MP for Miri Dr Michael Teo, MP for Johor Baru Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir and MP for Lubok Antu Jugah Muyan.
