KANOWIT: The annual Pesta Kanowit serves as a platform to foster unity, not only among local residents but also those in the surrounding areas, according to Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

He said one of the unique features of this year’s Pesta Kanowit was the presence of ethnic stalls showcasing the diverse cultures of each race.

The ethnic stalls participating in Pesta Kanowit involved the Melayu Sarawak, Orang Ulu, Iban, Chinese and Melanau communities.

“Besides the regular programmes and activities organised during Pesta Kanowit, this year, we had ethnic stalls showcasing the various cultures and races in Sarawak,” said Aaron who is Kanowit MP.

“Hence, by taking part in this event, we are not only engaging in sports but it also can further enhance unity among our people,” he said at the closing of Pesta Kanowit at Kanowit Waterfront here today (Sept 24).

Aaron hoped that other festivals will follow suit by organising stalls that highlight the state’s ethnic and cultural uniqueness to further enhance unity.
