KUCHING: An evacuation centre has been opened in Kampung Segong following relentless downpour during the early hours of Saturday (March 2).

The Sarawak Civil Defence Force (APM) reported that the evacuation centre was established at 6.55am this morning.

Currently, the centre accommodates six adults, one child, and one baby, comprising three males and five females.

The heavy downpour, which lasted from 1am until 6.40am this morning, resulted in damage to some areas in the Bau Division.

However, APM stated that the rain has ceased, and water levels are receding in the area.

At present, APM is in the process of evacuating residents to the temporary relief centre.
