BELAGA: An excavator plunged 30 metres down a ravine in Umah Kahei, here, killing its driver yesterday (June 6).

The victim was identified as Ponsel.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received a distress call at 4.50 pm and dispatched an eight-member to the scene.

“The firefighters discovered the overturned excavator in the forest, about 1 kilometre away from the main road.

“The victim was found trapped inside the excavator. It is believed that he was engaged in terracing activities for agricultural purposes when, unfortunately, the excavator slid on the newly-built terrace and tumbled down the 30-metre deep ravine,” Bomba said in a statement.
