KUCHING: Young people have been advised to exercise self-discipline when it comes to the usage of mobile phones and other electronic gadgets.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said parents are worried about their children being too engrossed until they do not care about what they should do with their lives.

“Mobile phones and the Internet are a blessing, and if used wisely, can be a huge advantage to people, especially youth,” he said during the closing and prize presentation of the inaugural Telang Usan e-Sport (Mobile Legend Bang Bang) at SJKC Kee Tee Long Lama multi-purpose hall last Sunday.

This was the reason why he supported and funded the competition for youth in Long Lama as “it is a good and healthy activity”.

“I am happy with the success of this event and I hope through such competition, the hidden talent among our youth in e-Sport can be unearthed, and they can represent the state in the Sukma Games and Malaysia in international competitions.”

Dennis said that he would gather information collected from a survey conducted by the organising team on data capacity in Long Lama, and bring this up to the relevant authority so that Internet connectivity could be improved.

“The service will not only be improved here but also in other rural parts of the Telang Usan constituency.”

Meanwhile, the tournament was won by RYLA from Miri, while second and third went to SSGP Tuyut and FORTY8 WARCON from Long Lama respectively.
