KUCHING: Sarawak is still following the existing standard operating procedure (SOP) relating to the postponement of religious activities in mosques and suraus during the movement control order (MCO) period.

Sarawak Islamic Department (Jais) Kuching Division officer (Islamic Affairs) Awang Salmi Awang Sabudin said the department has not yet received any new information on the resolution of the muzakarah (discussion) on the guidelines for Friday prayers for the conditional MCO (CMCO) period.

“The matters pertaining to the next SOP implementation will be decided and announced by the Ministry of Religious Affairs soon.

“As of now, we must continue to comply with the existing SOP whereby all religious activities including Friday prayers and congregational prayers in mosques and suraus are not allowed,” he said.

He said this to reporters after attending a bubur lambuk distribution programme at Kampung Tabuan Haji Drahman in Jalan Foochow No.1 here, yesterday.

The existing SOP took effect in the country since the implementation of MCO on March 18 to curb the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak.
