KUCHING: The Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) is planning to expand Internet coverage in rural areas through major projects.

Its general manager Dr Zaidi Razak said the projects would include the construction of communication towers and digital community centres.

“This will provide opportunities to the rural community to enjoy Internet facilities that are available in their area,” he said on Radio ERA.

Stressing the importance of digitalisation to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus, he also said that SMA would continue to provide digital platforms to the community.

“For example, programmes like e-Preneurs will be able to help entrepreneurs to market their products and bring their brand to the international stage.

“Such provision to provide Internet facilities in rural areas same as in the city is in line with state government’s vision to ensure no one will be left behind.”
