Expect a unique experience at La Promenade Mall art show

KUCHING: Hoan Gallery at La Promenade Mall here will host six local artists for their upcoming ABSTRACT 2022 art show from May 14 until June 5.

“It is my great honour to co-organise this show at the mall,” said Hoan Gallery owner Hoan Kee Huang.

“The artists and I have been talking about, and preparing for this show for months, all artworks will be new and never seen before. It is rare to have an abstract art show in Sarawak.”

Sarawak Artists Society (SAS) newly elected president David Chew and vice-president Sebastian Jong as well as Sheila Kho, Joanne Lau, Michelle Liou and Jane Ling are among the artists featured.

Chew, a member of the Malaysian National Visual Arts Gallery, considered his work to be abstract expressionism in style.

“In my childhood, I was trained in impressionism, and since 2000, I’ve been doing abstracts, I use watercolours, oil paints and acrylic paints. I especially like huge canvases.”

Chew and Jong will lead two public art classes, the first of which will be titled ‘Self-Actualisation Via Art Jamming’ on May 21 from 2pm to 4pm and suitable for those with or without painting skills.

The second demo and class, ‘Pouring Art Experience with Sebastian,’ will be held on May 22, 2pm to 4pm, and both classes are priced at RM50.

The six artists mentioned are members of the Malaysia Visual Art Gallery, who were invited to the Sarawak Library’s 2021 Art Show in the past.

All the art on display at La Promenade Mall will be for sale, with prices ranging from a few hundred to thousands of ringgit.

The public can visit lapromenademall.com.my or search @lapromenademall on Facebook and Instagram for more information.
