KUCHING: Malaysians can expect a more stable and peaceful year under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after all the endless political squabbles in the country over the last few years.

Political observer Datuk Peter Minos said the country and the people want and need political and economic stability, to accelerate economic growth after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We have all witnessed how political uncertainty and instability have affected the country’s economy badly, thus, we want a stable government that has the ability to fully restore the economy,” he said in a statement today.

Apart from that, he said, it was crucial to ensure Malaysians continue to live in peace and harmony and reject extremism.

Minos said Anwar needs to step up efforts to ensure Sarawak and Sabah are treated equally as other states in the Peninsula as well as in the interests of the people in the two states.

“The unity government should not neglect the minorities in the country as they have been sidelined in all aspects for many years already. It is time to look into their interests as they are part of Malaysia too.

“They want to be appreciated and deserve to be given attention, including more benefits, such as access and entry to free tertiary education, training or learning certain skills or acquisition of expertise in a particular field or discipline to ensure they can catch up and be on par with others,” he added.
