KUCHING: A group of ten diners found sharing a table in an eatery at Jalan Song, here were issued RM1,500 compound each for breaching Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The owner of the premises on the other hand was issued a compound of RM10,000, bringing the total compounds to RM25,000.

Kuching police chief ACP Ashmon Bajah said the compounds were issued during an SOP monitoring operation carried out last Wednesday evening.

He pointed out that all those compounded were locals aged between 35 and 53 years.

“The compounds were issued for failure to practise social distancing,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 23).

Ashmon added that the compounds were imposed in accordance with Regulation 17 (2) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) of the National Recovery Plan 2021.

“The community is also reminded to continue to adhere to the relevant SOPs for the common good,” he advised.
