KUCHING: Tourism hotspots in Sarawak may soon be experienced via Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality technology developed by local start-up company Aerovetics Sdn Bhd.

This is in line with the state government’s vision to position Sarawak as a major tourist destination using digital technology. The technology seeks to promote Sarawak digital tourism by using the VR platform.

“Digital tourism is the use and application of digital tools to improve and support the tourists’ experience,” said Aerovetics spokesperson Shawn Mckenzie in a press statement yesterday.

“Through the VR platform, the user will be able to experience the immersive 360 VR of tourist hotspots that can be found in Sarawak.

“With ultra-vibrant colours and uber-realistic sounds, VR digital tourism delivers a realistic experience unlike any other,” said Mckenzie.

He explained that a world could be created that transports the user to any scene in a matter of seconds.

Aerovetics aims to become the pioneer in revolutionising the way the tourism industry operates by capitalising on digital technology such as VR as the state moves towards embracing Industrial Revolution 4.0.

The soft launch of the Aerovetics VR-digital tourism was officiated by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah yesterday.

Aerovetics extended their appreciation towards Serba Dinamik IT Solutions Sdn Bhd general manager Abdul Qaiyum Alidin and StartUp Borneo campaign manager Effy Akhbarizam for allowing them to be part of the historic exhibition.
