Express boat services for the Sibu-Sarikei-Tanjung Manis-Kuching route and vice versa will be allowed to operate again on Monday (Nov 30), said Sarawak River Rivers Board (LSS) Region II Sibu assistant controller Hatta Morshidi.

SIBU: Express boat services for the Sibu-Sarikei-Tanjung Manis-Kuching route and vice versa will be allowed to operate again on Monday (Nov 30), said Sarawak River Rivers Board (LSS) Region II Sibu assistant controller Hatta Morshidi.

He said this when contacted on Sunday (Nov 29).

In view of this, he urged express boat operators and passengers to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Hatta added that permission to operate was given following Kuching’s declaration as a Covid-19 yellow zone.

The express boat services have been temporarily suspended since Nov 4 after Kuching was declared as a Covid-19 red zone.

However, the conditional movement control order (CMCO) implemented in Kuching from Nov 9 to 22 was then extended for another five days until Nov 27.

The daily departure time from Sibu to Kuching is at 11.30am while the express boat from Kuching to Sibu departs at 8.30am.

Previously, the Kuching-Sibu-Kuching express boat services were suspended from Aug 1 to 14 due to the implementation of inter-zone travel restrictions in Sarawak following the surge in Covid-19 cases at that time.
