KUCHING: The reopening of schools for face-to-face session in Sarawak will only apply to students who will sit for major examinations.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas was referring to the operation of educational institutions under the Ministry of Education (MOE) in areas under the movement control order (MCO) and conditional movement control order (CMCO) in the state.

“For schools in MCO and CMCO areas, face-to-face school sessions will only involve students who will sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM), Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM), Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) and Diploma Vocational Malaysia (DVM) examinations for 2020 and 2021 as well as the equivalent international examinations.

“Students in full boarding schools and day boarding schools who will sit for the examinations are allowed to return to the hostel from Jan 16 in line with the previous MOE announcement,” he told a press conference here today.

Meanwhile, he said all other school students will follow learning sessions through the home-based learning method according to the suitability of teachers and students beginning Jan 20.

This is subjected to all primary school students including pre-school and Year One to Year Six, as well as secondary school students from Form One to Form Four in MCO and CMCO areas in the state.

“This ruling also applies to students of Semester Two of SVM and Semester Two of DVM for 2020 at vocational colleges in the state,” he added.
