BAU: A furniture factory worker was arrested for possessing drugs near a bank in Bau town on Monday (May 17).

The district’s narcotics police were carrying out patrols around 9.45am when they noticed a man acting in a suspicious manner. They detained him for questioning.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon stated that it led to the discovery of a plastic packet containing crystalline lumps believed to be syabu, inside a small tin case.

“The suspect and the drugs weighing around 0.34g were later taken to Bau Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) office for further action.

“Background check found that the 25-year-old man did not have any past record. However, he was tested positive for drugs,” he said.

During questioning, the suspect had admitted to using drugs for fun due to being influenced by friends since early this year.

Poge stressed that Bau NCID will continue to conduct inspections in public areas to detect any drug activities.

The suspect will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
