KUCHING: The distribution of cabinet members amongst the major component parties namely, Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) appeared to be reasonably fair.

Political analyst Dr Gregory Hii of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) said after the long wait, Malaysia finally has the cabinet consisting of 28 full ministers.

“There are no surprises as to the two Deputy Prime Ministers namely UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, GPS Chief Whip.

“While the distribution of cabinet members amongst the major component parties namely, PH, BN and GPS appeared to be reasonably fair.

“One has to wait for each of the minister’s performance before one can assess how good the line-up is or if they meet the voter’s expectation,” he said when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune on Saturday (dec 3).

Dr Hii said that Malaysia needs to do a lot to regain its position as an Asian tiger again.

“I hope the new team under the new Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will not disappoint us.

“The next anxious moment is awaiting the appointment of deputy ministers. That should help in satisfying the minor parties request for participation in Unity government.

“Whatever it is, let us hope that the new government is one that has the interest of people as their main concern,” he added.
