The Bomba personnel dispatched using a boat to search the location of where the man might have drowned

SIBU: An Indian national who reportedly fell down from his boat was feared to have drowned on Friday (July 24).

In a statement issued by the Bomba Operations Centre (PGO), it was learnt that the incident happened at Sungai Sebedil, Batang Igan.

The department said the victim was identified as 21-year-old Kumar Saurabh.

“One of his colleagues jumped into the river in an attempt to save the victim but the victim drowned and disappeared from his sight,” the statement added.

After that, PGO said, the victim’s employer then contacted the Sibu Central Fire Station (BBP) at 1.21 pm for further assistance.

According to the statement, BBP Sibu along with a four-wheel drive vehicle and a five-member boat led by PB Amri Rijie rushed to the scene.

“Once there, the fire brigade carried out a search and rescue (SAR) operation using the ‘Water Surface Searching’ method at the location where the victim was feared to have fallen.

“So far, the victim has not been found,” the statement added.
