Families in flooded evacuated to nearby longhouse

SELANGAU: Flood waters inundated Gerinsa Narang longhouse on Monday (Mar 22) and forced two families to be evacuated to another longhouse nearby.

A spokesperson of the State Fire Department operations centre said they received a distress call about the flood around 10.35pm and firemen from Selangau were despatched to the scene.

Upon arriving, the team found the 19-door longhouse was under waist-high flood water.

It turned out that only 10 persons in two families were still living in the longhouse as the other 17 have already moved out to a new longhouse nearby.

Meanwhile, in Betong, a 13-door longhouse at Jalan Ulu Spak was also flooded following heavy rain.

The Ijok longhouse which is is 80km from the fire station was under a foot of water that was up from 9pm to 11pm.

As the water had begun to recede when they arrived the firemen returned to their station after checking on the situation and gathering some information.
