SEBUYAU: Heavy downpour since last night (Feb 27) has inundated a two-storey house in Kampung Jeragam, with floodwaters reaching two feet deep.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a distress call at 2.06 am about the rising floodwaters.

Firefighters from Simunjan station were dispatched to the scene, about 68km away.

Upon arrival, they found the lower floor of the house submerged in water levels up to knee level.

A family of five living in the house declined evacuation to a temporary relief centre, expressing confidence in the safety of the upper floor and that the water is receding.

The team advised the residents to remain vigilant and report any further rise in water levels due to the ongoing rainfall.

The operation ended at 4.40 am.
