Farmer claims trial to gang robbery charge

KUCHING: A farmer was charged in the Sessions Court here today for being involved in a gang robbery against a motorcyclist on Dec 2 last year.

The accused Kiew Ming San, however, pleaded not guilty before Judge Maris Agan.

He was charged with gang robbery using a dangerous weapon and causing injury to Mohd Al Ikbal Arfan, 21, at Jalan Taman Suria Jaya in Matang around 8.30pm on Dec 2, 2021.

The 26-year-old was charged with robbing a smartphone, a house key, a power bank and a motorcycle belonging to the victim.

The accused was charged under Section 394 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment for up to 20 years and a fine or whipping, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohammad Aiman Mutallib Mohamad Shariff did not offer any bail to the accused who was not represented by a counsel.

The court then ordered the accused to be further remanded and advised him to appoint a counsel  before re-mention for case management on March 3.
