KUCHING: A 63-year-old resident and his family at Taman Won in Matang here received government aid on Saturday.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, who handed over the aid, said Rombli Jusni was also given an approval letter for his monthly handout under the ministry’s Welfare Aid Scheme and Children’s Aid Scheme.

“We hope that this family would continue to be independent as they have been selling wild ferns (pucuk paku) to earn some income which is a handy addition to their monthly assistance,” she said while exercising one of the ministry’s welfare programmes at Rombli’s house on Saturday.

She added that they also had high hopes for the youngest son of the family in terms of education.

“We will ask the family to allow us to put the child in a hostel for a more positive learning environment,” she said.

Fatimah also expressed gratitude to Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman for helping to provide the plot of land where the family’s house is currently being built.

“It was built with an allocation from the YB (Fazzrudin). The construction will resume today (Jun 6) after a delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We have also discussed with Rombli to also provide a stall for the family to sell pucuk paku once their house has been built,” she said.

Help was also sought from the fire department to sanitise Rombli’s home.

“Although they will move to the new house soon, the current one should be kept clean,” she said.

After her visit, Fatimah and her welfare officers then took Rombli’s wife, Pauziah Rajak, and their youngest child, Mohammah Sollehan Rombli, to Mydin Hypermart to purchase school supplies.

“The child is quite bright. It is important to me to get him to study hard for a better future,” she said.
