KUCHING: The inclusion of Jawi in Malay language subject in school has puzzled Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

“I am not really sure what the ministry wants to introduce. Is it the Jawi scripture itself or the calligraphy art or both?” said Fatimah to reporters when interviewed at her office in Baitulmakmur building here yesterday.

“During my time, Jawi was included in Malay language subject but not calligraphy which was a co-curricular activity as one of the options in club activities,” she said.

Fatimah pointed out that while she is open to hear more about the idea and its implementation, the Education Ministry has bigger issues to focus on.

“This includes raising the quality of education along with the efficiency of its delivery. Some work should also be done concurrently to improve the quality of teachers and school infrastructure,” she said.
