KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah welcomes the formation of a new wing in the party to cater for youth between the ages of 18 and 28.

“The new wing will accommodate youth whose needs and interests may not be the same as the older age groups.

“This formation of the young wing is in line with the policy of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) emphasising inclusivity. It caters to a wider group compared to a wing purely on women alone as it will include both genders,” she said in a statement on Monday (Jan 9).

Understanding the importance of youth involvement in the party’s women movement, a Women Youth group had been formed in a number of PBB branches since 2019, explained Fatimah.

“Workshops were also held to get a feel of their thoughts and expressions following exposure to social activities, which were not always related to politics besides giving them a platform for hands-on participation in planning and managing activities for the local communities.

“The mentor-mentee strategy was also applied between the youth and branch women chiefs to shape and empower them,” she explained.

She recalled that throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, young women were also involved in the distribution of food aid to targeted groups.

“During the recent state election, some of them also assisted in our reach-out programme to the electorate through social media, WhatsApp and phone calls,” she added.
